Milty ZeroStat 3 Antistatic Pistol Overview And First Impressions
If you are a vinyl fan then you will know how much of a pain that dust and static is when looking after your vinyl collection. For years, I have always tried to look after my records the best way possible and keep them as clean and dust free as I possibly can, but dust and static can be a terrible combination that can ruin your listening experience.

There is many high-end solutions for cleaning records which can run into thousands which unless you have an endless budget will not be possible for most of us, but with the ZeroStat 3 from Milty it can cost you less than a couple of records to achieve excellent results.

Build Quality

The ZeroStat 3 is made from a hard plastic which is very durable and long lasting, it incorporates a unique Piezo crystal device which generates a positive electrical charge with one gentle squeeze of the trigger, and a negative charge on the release of the trigger, so cancelling charges on the LP or CD. It is a device which will last for approx, 10,000 trigger pulls so it is a device which will last a while but can easily be replaced once it need it.

How it Works

Each Zerostat unit has a "two cycle" type of operation, when the trigger is squeezed, positive ions are generated and when the trigger is relaxed, negative ions flow. This means that it is possible to induce a charge on a neutral surface using the Zerostat. If the trigger is squeezed, and the Zerostat is then removed from the surface (and before allowing the trigger to return to its original position), a positive charge will be induced. Similarly, pointing the Zerostat at the surface only for the release of the trigger will induce a negative charge.

How much charge is given off?

Each squeeze of the trigger results in a discharge, when stated in units of charge, is 1.5 Coulumbs.

How long will it last?

One can reasonably expect on the order of 10,000 such "squeeze cycles" during the lifetime of the Zerostat unit. The Zerostat needs no batteries or electrical supply nor does it contain any radioactive components.

Where can it be used?

The Zerostat gun, theory, will work in any atmosphere, but we would add great caution before using it with or in proximity to flammable or combustible gases/liquids.

Spare parts:

The Zerostat 3 is designed to be a disposable (throw-away) product. It is not built to be taken apart and there are not replacement parts.

What does it weigh?

The net weight of the Zerostat gun is 135g (0.297 lbs) The unit is highly portable and easy to control and handle

Performance

I have been so impressed with how this unit works that I wanted to share the results of this simple device with my fellow readers of The Speaker Shack. I have a rapidly growing collection of vinyl and it is one of the best £50-£60 that I have spent for my record collection so far. With every record that I use it eliminates pops and crackles that plagued my records even though I was using a brush. Now I use the brush and then the ZeroStat 3 so that it loses its static charge and plays crystal clear sound through my Clearaudio Concept MC cartridge and record deck. It is not just my LP collection that has benefited from this device but also my CD collection. Every time I put a CD on I use the ZeroStat 3 and remove any static charge from the silver discs.

If you really want to eliminate static from your LP's then you really need to give this a shot as like me you will reap the rewards and your system will be crackle free.
